Welcome to Zambia College of Agriculture – Mpika

The Zambia College of Agriculture – Mpika (ZCA Mpika) is a premier agricultural training institution established in 1976 by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, with support from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The college operates under the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and is strategically located 660 km north of Lusaka and 22 km north of Mpika Town, along the Great North Road. The institution sits on a vast 2,764-hectare farm, providing a conducive learning environment for practical agricultural training.

Graduates from ZCA Mpika are able to find work in the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Training Institutions (ATIs), Universities, Colleges, Zambia National Service (ZNS), Private Farms, Seed companies (like Kamano Seeds, Afriseeds, Zamseed, Seed-co) , Zambia Sugar Company, Kafue Sugar, Kasama Sugar, Mansa Sugar, Northern Coffee Corporation (Kateshi Coffee) and other organizations countrywide and throughout the world.

Comprehensive Training Programs
We offer accredited diploma and certificate programs in agriculture, ensuring students receive both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience on our 2,764-hectare farm.
Practical Learning Approach
Students gain hands-on experience through farm-based training, laboratory sessions, and study tours, ensuring they are well-prepared for real-world agricultural challenges.
ZCA Departments

These departments are headed by the Vice Principal’s office who is assisted by various departments. These include:

Department of Support Services

This department is headed by an HoD assisted by The Senior Training Officer (STO). The department is mandated to officer courses in basic sciences, management, and ICT, Namely: Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Farm Management, ICT and , Ecology, Research methods amongst many others. These courses are offered to both certificate and diploma students.

Department of Sustainable Agriculture

This department is headed by an HoD who is assisted by The Senior Training officer (STO). The department is mandated to offer courses in crop sciences, Animal sciences, Agronomy, Sustainable Agriculture, Soil Sciences, and Agroforestry amongst many other courses to diploma students.

Department of Production

This department is headed by an HoD who is assisted by The Senior Training officer (STO). The department is mandated to offer courses in crop sciences, Animal sciences, Agronomy, Sustainable Organic Agriculture, Soil Sciences, and Agroforestry amongst many other courses to certificate students.

Department of Agricultural Engineering

This department is headed by an HoD who is assisted by The Senior Training officer (STO). The department is mandated to offer courses in , Farm structures and mechanization, land management, integrated water resources management(IWRM), Integrated land use planning(ILUP), Workshop technology, Farm water supply and irrigation amongst many others to diploma and certificate students

 Department of Education and Food technology:

his department is headed by an HoD who is assisted by The Senior Training officer (STO). The department is mandated to offer courses in Human food and Nutrition, Nutrition and human health, Agriculture science teaching methods, Problems and roles of education in Zambia, foundation of education psychology  to certificate and diploma students.

ZCA Farms

In order to facilitate practical training and productivity, Zca mpika has a farm manager who is assisted by One (1) assistant farm manager. College training farm has Beef Section, piggery section, Poultry section, Vegetable section, Irrigation section were field crops are grown.

Pine plantation Project

This initiative focuses on sustainable forestry, emphasizing environmental conservation. Students engage in practical training on tree planting and management, learning how to create long-lasting ecosystems that benefit both nature and the economy.

Maize Productivity Project

Dedicated to improving maize yields, this project equips students with innovative farming techniques that increase crop productivity. By enhancing food security through better farming practices, this project plays a vital role in feeding communities while educating future agricultural leaders.

Fisheries production project

Students in this program gain valuable experience in fish farming, learning sustainable aquaculture practices. This initiative helps local communities by promoting eco-friendly methods of fish production and creating new opportunities in the fisheries sector.
